How to Post Video to Your LinkedIn Newsfeed

How to Post Video to Your LinkedIn Newsfeed

LinkedIn has lagged behind other social channels in many features and updates. One of these was allowing videos to be hosted natively on the site. Up until now, users could not post a video directly to LinkedIn – it had to be shared from another video hosting site. LinkedIn engineering added a new feature and users can now host a video directly on their own newsfeed.

Since Microsoft acquired LinkedIn we’ve seen more than a few changes to the site. One of the most notable was the change to the privacy policy and who can see users’ posts. Posts are seen by other LinkedIn users, but they may also be seen by non-members as well.

The next major improvement is video hosting to share content on LinkedIn. Previously, LinkedIn users could only share a video from other video hosting channels like YouTube or Vimeo. Videos can be posted directly from the app but not from the desktop website. The only thing needed to post videos is an updated version of the LinkedIn mobile app.

Videos are one of the best ways to convey a message. They can be used to make a personal connection, demonstrate a product, or talk directly to potential consumers. LinkedIn has over 500 million users. It’s a unique business-oriented social media channel.
.

LinkedIn videos can be recorded from a smartphone or other mobile device that has the app downloaded. Posted videos are not “live” like they can be on other social channels like Facebook or Instagram. Before the video is posted, users have the chance to back out and try again. There is also an opportunity to add some text to the post and describe what the video is about.

The LinkedIn app now allows users to post a video directly to a user’s LinkedIn newsfeed. IN the past LinkedIn only allowed users to share a video from another video sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo. Learn how to post a video to LinkedIn. Follow to steps in the video and you’ll find it is rather easy to do. I have more video on LinkedIn. See the links below for more LinkedIn tutorials.

How to Get More LinkedIn Connections

LinkedIn, when used correctly and professionally, can lead to new business connections. If you want to meet new people and make more connections on LinkedIn, then there are a few steps to making sure your profile is updated and discoverable online. Recently, I made a vide on privacy settings. Completing or updating your profile, and changing privacy settings can help you make new connections or find a new job! Some of these settings may interfere with the you must make your profile more visible There are a few data points in the privacy section of a LinkedIn profile that make it easier for other users to find you and make a connection.

LinkedIn.com is a business-oriented social network with more than 500 million users from over 200 countries. The site was acquired by Microsoft in 2017 and has slowly been making improvements to profiles and features.

Find out how to get more LinkedIn Connections. There are a few settings changes to make to make your LinkedIn profile more discoverable. It only takes a few minutes of checking into your privacy settings. Make sure your email and phone number are saved in LinkedIn. Next, make sure they can be used to discover your profile. By enabling these settings other users are able to find your profile more easily on LinkedIn. These are three simple areas too visit and possibly enable under the privacy tab to make your profile more discoverable. They are:

  • Email
  • Organization
  • Phone number

Allow other users to find you profile using your email address. All profiles already have an associated email address. Email addresses are used to login or reset the account passwords. It’s also the email where notifications are sent to. In addition, You can choose whether to allow other LinkedIn users to connect with you using this email address. Maybe you ‘ve noticed the prompt from the LinkedIn app asking you to allow it to access your contacts and find your friends or business contacts on LinkedIn. Unless you allow access to the email address associated with your account, other users won’t be able to use their address books to find you. They also won’t be able to find you via an email search.

LinkedIn also allows you to enter in multiple email addresses that you are associated with. Many people have multiple email addresses – one for work, one for personal use, and maybe others for the organization they belong to.

Your phone number is also a data point that other LinkedIn users can use to connect with you. I have a phone number in my profile for authentication and account security.

The last one is your employer or organization you belong to and have listed in your profile. Other LinkedIn users can connect with you based on where you work. Like email address and phone number, users can use a company names or volunteer organizational names to connect. If you choose not to allow this, other users can still go to that company’s LinkedIn page, see who is an employee, and send a connection that manually

LinkedIn.com Privacy Update: Posts Are Now Public!

by Admin

LinkedIn.com Privacy Update: Posts Are Now Public!

When sharing a post on LinkedIn.com, you can control who can see it by using the drop-down menu below the share box. [Figure 1] Previously, if you posted using the “public” setting on LinkedIn it was visible only to those users who were signed in to their LinkedIn account.

As of the third week of July 2017 posts shared as public on LinkedIn are visible to people who are signed into LinkedIn. In addition, they are now also visible to people who are not signed in as well as to people on other sites as well. Posting something to the public is beneficial as it will get your post in front of more people as they are no longer restricted to only logged-in LinkedIn users. It’s also a privacy concern, as you may not want the information you share going beyond this social channel.

Figure 1

LinkedIn.com is a business oriented social network that boasts over 500 million users come from more than 200 countries. The site was recently acquired by Microsoft. It’s a good site for a career change too as there are over 10 million LinkedIn job postings.

Before a post can be shared off-site, you may have to change your LinkedIn.com privacy settings. To see if your post can be shared publicly, on LinkedIn, go to:

  1. Privacy settings – Set to Everyone on LinkedIn. Note: If you’ve blocked another member on LinkedIn, they may be able to see your public posts off LinkedIn or in guest mode (not signed in) on LinkedIn
  2. Public profile visibility – Change to “Make my public profile visible to everyone” and checkmark Posts & Activities to make your posts visible to the public

The ability to change the visibility settings for sharing posts to public – making them visible on and off LinkedIn.com – is only available for posts created natively. This means to use this privacy feature you must be using LinkedIn.com, or post using the LinkedIn iOS and Android mobile app. Posts created with other third-party apps that use the public setting, like Buffer, still only post to those signed in to LinkedIn.

Recently I produced a YouTube video about important LinkedIn privacy settings and how to adjust them. If you are updating your profile on www.LinkedIn.com then watch the above video and check on these settings. One of the most important is whether you want other www.LinkedIn.com users to see your updates. This along with your location are important privacy settings if you are looking at posting for LinkedIn jobs.

LinkedIn Privacy Settings – Guide to Important Settings

by Admin

LinkedIn privacy settings – Important LinkedIn Settings to Check

Have you visited your LinkedIn profile lately? No? Then it’s time you checked on your LinkedIn privacy settings. Keeping your social media privacy settings is important if you want control over how much information the public sees about you.

One of the most common LinkedIn settings to turn off concerns the updates themselves. By default, when you make a change to your LinkedIn profile, everyone on your network is notified. If you are looking to leave your current employer, you may not want them to notice your profile edits. On the other hand, if you are looking for recognition for a new skill, then keeve this setting on! Another little know setting change is your zip code. If you are seeking a new job or at least open to new opportunities, then make sure your LinkedIn account’s zip code matches the area you want to work in. This makes it easier for recruiters to find you.

This LinkedIn Settings video shows how to change settings such as

  • Who can see your connections
  • Profile visibility
  • How other users see you when you are browsing connections

Changing careers is not the only reasons to visit your LinkedIn privacy settings. Keep in mind that hackers looking to social engineering cyber attack their way into some other account information use social media to learn about you. Things like hometown, current city, birthdate, and pet’s names are common password reset questions. You may want to consider restricting who sees your personal information. I keep my hometown information private (but if you know me or ever met me in person, where I grew up is obvious!

Of course, updating your public facing LinkedIn profile information is also a good idea. Do you have your current employer and job title listed? Swap out that five-year-old headshot with something more current so we know who to look for at conferences! Revisit your job description and add any new awards and achievements, and job duties! Videos make a nice addition to profiles too. It gives readers and recruiters a chance to know you better before they decide to send a connection or message.

LinkedIn’s Volunteer Marketplace Connects Talent With Nonprofits

by Admin

On January 15th LinkedIn CEO Reid Hoffman announced the company’s new Volunteer Marketplace, in a blog post. The goal of the Volunteer Marketplace is to help nonprofits who need talent with professionals who want to lend their expertise. LinkedIn’s Volunteer Marketplace will help nonprofits and professionals find each other.

By providing opportunities for all these different kinds of LinkedIn members, we aim to help the social sector by doing what we do best as a company: connecting talent with opportunity at massive scale.

LinkedIn partnered with business talent matching services such as Catchafire, Taproot Foundation, BoardSource and VolunteerMatch to help users find volunteer and board opportunities.

For the overwhelming 82% of surveyed LinkedIn members that indicated they wanted to volunteer their time and skills, the Volunteer Marketplace will help them enhance their life. Recently I updated my LinkedIn profile by adding the Volunteer and Causes section to it.
